Best time to insulate

One of the best times to insulate is during a renovation. If you are remodeling or changing any interior wall that is an exterior wall this would be a great time to upgrade your insulation.

If you have existing fiberglass or batten insulation you might be surprised to know that almost 30% of air escapes from it and that number increases if it is improperly installed.

Spray foam does conform to the space in which it is in and can decrease heating/cooling costs up to 60%.

Other benefits:

  • Can improve air quality and help to reduce allergic reactions to pollen and dust
  • Helps to reduce mold and mold growth
  • Water & flood resistant
  • Does not support or spread flame
  • Provides a greater sound barrier making homes and living spaces quieter
  • Spray foam is not a food source for insects and vermin.

This garage renovation in Banff was the perfect opportunity to replace old fiberglass insulation with spray foam creating a warm mountain morning or winter environment.

Unexpected spray foam solutions

Insulfoam Services Spray Foam SolutionsDid you know that spray foam will adhere to almost anything and if you use a waterproof foam? It’s true. There are many uses for spray foam that you may not have considered. For example:

  1. A loose shower head. Just cover the tile around it and spray foam in the loose area and let it harden. Then use an exacto knife to carve off the excess and replace the cover plate.
  2. Older copper pipes that are making noise. Locate the source and fill the space around the pipe with spray foam. You may have to remove a small area of drywall, but the silence will be worth the effort!
  3. Opening(s) where insects are getting into your home? Fill the crack or space with steel wool and fill with spray foam.
  4. Even a great adhesive for those outdoor projects such as sealing your leaking eavestrough or repairing decorative rock.

Spray Foam Your Van Against Winter Sub Temperatures

Spray Foam the interior of you van or cargo truck.

When the temperatures get below -30 you might not want to go out side. Some essential services like plumbers and heating experts are often doing just that because when there are cold weather extremes that is when their services are most needed.

If you have a service vehicle that has to be out in extreme cold or heat for that matter, spray foaming the interior of you vehicle can help prevent cold from getting in and guard against extreme heat in warmer weather.

Spray foam insulation in your van or cargo truck should be installed by an expert. Spray foam provides the highest R-value at R-7 and beside being a great insulator it can tap down exterior sound and keep metal vehicle walls from condensation.

Insul-Foam services has a long history with service vehicles and can suggest the proper method to insulate against sub-zero temperatures. Get in touch for a quick estimate 403-248-6616.

Water Tank Insulation

Not all water tanks are created equal.

You might be surprised to know that a great number of industrial water tanks are not manufactured with sever weather specifications. With out modification many of these tankers and mobile liquid tanks would have their load freeze in sever winter conditions like the sometimes -40 that happens in Alberta.

That’s where Insul-Foam Services steps in to insulate these tanks to a level that will keep their contents fluid.

We recently spray foamed a mobile water tank for a local company with our closed cell spray foam application and it’s doing such a great job they have decided to upgrade more.

New Spray Foam From Soprema.

Here we are spraying a new Spray Foam From Sprema

SOPRA-SPF is a two-component polyurethane foam with a closed-cell structure. This superior quality product is designed for interior or exterior insulation applications, whether commercial, industrial, or residential.

It has the new HFO (Hydrofluoroolefin) blowing agent and is Greenguard Gold certified.

It usually takes a bit of time to dial in the temperature and pressure when starting out with a new product. It’s always important to check for proper adhesion and use density tests when spraying foam.

Below is a picture of an adhesion test in progress. The round disc stuck to the foam has been cored around right to the concrete substrate. We then hang a weight off the disc to make sure our adhesion is good.

Working Around the Little Things

Managing obstacles while spray foaming.

Here we are spraying foam on an ongoing project in downtown Calgary.

On most construction sites there are more than one trade at a time working in the same space. This is to get the job done in a timely manner and on budget.

Sometimes the job of spray foaming can be complicated by having to maneuver around unfinished wiring and structural incompleteness.

Spray foam can adhere to many substances including metal, concrete, and wood. These surfaces need to be clean and dry or the Spray foam may not attach itself properly.

Insul-Foam Services always takes into consideration environment and working conditions before spaying and makes adjustments for other trades to complete their work so our spray foam is applied correctly and safely.

Spray Foam the Small Spaces

If you are renovating your basement or any space below grade keeping it warm and dry is a priority.

Spray foam insulation is a fast economic way to get the job done.

At Insul-Foam Services we do large and small spray foam jobs.

This is an example of a small basement development we recently sprayed in a condo. As it’s between other units, we only had to spray the front and back foundation walls tying into the rim/joist ends for a continuous seal. This space will stay warm and dry for years to come.
