Spray Foam Saves Thousands in Elevator Shaft Heat Loss

It has been reported that tall buildings that use elevators to travel between floors lose thousands of dollars a year in through heat loss do to improperly insulated elevator shafts.

Heat loss in these buildings depends largely on the height and location. Tall buildings in areas where they are surrounded by other like buildings more densely populated can lose up to $2.500 a year while the same building in an area that allows for more air flow or is prone to higher winds can loose up to $5,000.

Without some kind of insulation elevator shafts work like chimneys, sucking the heat in at the bottom of the shaft and blowing it out at the top of the buildings.

Spray foam can greatly mitigate the loss of heat in elevator shafts at the same time dampening the sound of the cables and machinery.

Insul-Foam Services has expertise in managing these high rise elevator shafts as evident in this short video.

Why Add Foam Insulation to Your Reno

If you’re renoing your home or updating your insulation, Why not use a good spray foam insulation.

After removing the old fibreglass batt insulation you can greatly increase your R-value by using a good close-cell spray foam insulation. Three inches of closed-cell spray foam can get your R-value as high as R-6.5 per inch.

Installation of spray foam, when done by a professional, can decrease reno time and large areas can be sprayed in minimal time.

Insul-Foam After Hours

Here is a class 1 spray foam we recently did on a skid. We are always grateful to our customers that allow us the opportunity to spray foam indoors.

The benefit of spraying indoors is two fold. We are able to use our custom carts to roll around on as opposed to spraying from our knees which saves us a lot of physical stress. The other benefit is not having to worry about the weather which as we know in Alberta can be very fickle.

We also spray after hours to accommodate the customers schedules.

If your business space needs an insulation overhaul but your are worried about how that would affect you office day, call us for information about after hours spraying.

Water Damage Leads to New Insulation

The water proofing on this exterior wasn’t done properly and was allowing water to come in. The existing spray foam was 1/2 lb or open cell foam which acted like a sponge with the infiltration of water. The builder in charge of the repair removed the drywall and insulation, fixed the water proofing outside, poured new concrete and then we sprayed 2lb closed cell foam over the exposed areas. Good bye water damage and hello R-value.

Whether doing a repair, renovating a apace or building new, spray foam insulation can significantly provider you R-value.

Insul-Foam Services has experience in all of the above and much more. For a quote on your particular project give us a call and speak to an expert. 403-248-6616

This May long weekend will look a little different

With the Victoria Day Weekend approaching, there are still many public health restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and many businesses and services will be closed.

Unfortunately it won’t be May long weekend cottage life and camping as usual either as all National and Alberta parks are closed to visitors and Parks Canada is recommending to ‘stay home’. If you are planning on heading out, be sure to check your local area rules and regulations beforehand.

Even though our weekend dreams may be dashed, it’s important to remember that these circumstances aren’t forever. There will be many more long weekends ahead to enjoy when safe to do so, and with everyone working together to get through this, hopefully that time isn’t in the too distant future. Let’s do our part and make the best of our uncertain times.

In the meantime, it’s going to be a gorgeous summer-like weekend and we are still hard at work with projects like this pre-painted skid. Most of the time we spray against clean bare steel. This is 3” of our class 1 foam used mostly in the oil patch.
If you need assistance or have any questions, we’re here to help.

Have a safe and relaxing long weekend.

Unusual Spray Foam Commercial Project

This ongoing commercial project had its challenges. When spraying up to light gauge steel stud framing you have to be very systematic and hold the studs in place as you go.

If not held in place they could get push or twisted because of the expanding nature of the spray foam.

Steel stud framing has a very high thermal conductivity so when used on exterior walls they can transfer cold into a building or home.

High density spray foam can stop the transfer of cold in the winter and heat in the summer.

How to Regulate Temperature in Your C Can

An intermodal container or C Can is a large standardized shipping container. These containers are built for freight, shipping and rail transport, and are easily transferable between all three modes.

C Cans come in varying sizes and are commonly used as tool sheds or to store furniture. Refrigerated C Cans can also be used to store perishables and other produce.

Spray foam insulation is a safe, easy and economical way to ensure your C Can can withstand the rigours of temperature change and helps keep interiors cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Insul-Foam Services can safely insulate your C Can while remaining socially distant.
