It’s Cold Outside!

Insulfoam Services Spray FoamIt sucks when you’re cold in you own home, but did you know that most Canadian homes lose a good portion of the heat their furnaces produces through improper insulation or construction. This leads to increasing the thermostat to compensate for the loss and consequently an increase in heating costs

Most people don’t really know where the heat is escaping in their homes.

Here a few of the most common areas where heat loss occurs in the average Canadian home.

Attic

This is the most common place for heat loss and can be up to as much as 24% .

Doors & Windows

Poor installation is mostly the cause for heat loss in these areas and can also add 25% loss.

Basement Floors

Almost 15% of home heat lost is through the basement and other floors.

Spray foam insulation is one of the options that is available to combat these areas of heat loss. Attics are especially easy to upgrade with spray foam and can raise your R – Value per inch: 5 – 6 with a typical average cost of around $2,200.

When is The Best Time to Insulate

One of the best times to insulate is during a renovation. If you are remodeling or changing any interior wall that is an exterior wall this would be a great time to upgrade your insulation.

If you have existing fiberglass or batten insulation you might be surprised to know that almost 30% of air escapes from it and that number increases if it is improperly installed.

Spray foam does conform to the space in which it is in and can decrease  heating/cooling costs up to 60%.

Other benefits:

  • Can improve air quality and help to reduce allergic reactions to pollen and dust
  • Helps to reduce mold and mold growth
  • Water & flood resistant
  • Does not support or spread flame
  • Provides a greater sound barrier making homes and living spaces quieter
  • Spray foam is not a food source for insects and vermin.

This garage renovation in Banff was the perfect opportunity to replace old fiberglass insulation with spray foam creating a warm mountain morning or winter environment.
